Good Friday is a time for reflection and prayer, as it is the day that God’s only Son, Jesus Christ, died and was crucified for the forgiveness of our sins. It is a day to show Christ’s sufferings for us before He was crucified and resurrected three days later.
This season calls us to reflect, pray, and ask for God’s forgiveness. It is also a time to reflect on our words and actions, pray for God’s intercession and guidance, and ask for His forgiveness as we wait for His resurrection.
Good Friday is also a blessing for everyone that we should celebrate for. With this, let us extend our warmest regards and wishes to family and friends for a blessed Good Friday.
How We Celebrate Good Friday
There are various practices and traditions done in celebration of Good Friday, varying all around the globe. Some of the practices and traditions done on this day are fasting or abstinence, penitence, prayers, novenas and devotions, processions, Stations of the Cross, and Seven Last Words.
Fasting and abstinence are the most common practices this entire Lenten Season. Fasting is a practice in which you reduce your food intake, and abstinence is a practice of avoiding eating meat. These are practices asking for penance.
Some men practice penitence—a reenactment of Jesus Christ’s sufferings and crucifixion. Others walk several miles barefoot, wearing crowns of twigs, and whip their backs for the atonement of their sins. In lieu of this, there are Christians who volunteer to offer free food and drinks to these penitents.
For those who wish to stay at home, they celebrate their Good Friday through prayer and reflection. Meanwhile, there are those who read and practice the Stations of the Cross at home, and some visit different churches as they pray Stations of the Cross.
At exactly 3 pm—the time symbolizing Christ’s death—some pray the rosary and watch the Seven Last Words. Also, there are communities that conduct a procession in celebration of this day.
These practices make up the celebration of Good Friday with our respective families. It is important that we commemorate the day Christ offered and sacrificed His life in order for us to be free from our sins. Good Friday not only allows us to ask for God’s forgiveness, but it’s also a day to forgive those who’ve wronged us as well.

“The dripping blood our only drink,
The bloody flesh our only food –
In spite of which we like to think
That we are sound,
Substantial flesh and blood –
Again, in spite of that,
We call this Friday good.”
