Easter Prayers

Every day in our Christian lives, we give it all to God: Our fears, our thanks, our thoughts. We do this by Prayer! Prayer is the way we talk to God and show Him that we see and feel and know he is working in our lives and our hearts.

Easter time is a time when we really owe a big thank you to our Father for giving us the greatest gift–the gift of new life! He died on the cross for our sins and came back to life; what’s not to be thankful for?

How to Pray

Sometimes it’s hard to come up with the words to say. If you find yourself struggling to speak with God, then here are some tips to help you out:

  1. Invitation: Whether you’re in church, at dinner, or just with some friends and feel the need, invite others to pray with you! You can say something like “please join me in prayer” or “let’s bow our heads in prayer.” Feel the moment and the right invitation will come! Prayer isn’t a performance, and it’s perfectly acceptable to invite others to add in what might be on their minds and hearts.
  2. Opening: Prayers are often started (but not always!) in an obvious marker such as “O Lord,” “Dear God,” or “Our Heavenly Father.” Some people find it insincere to always start praying the same way. There’s nothing wrong with it, so long as the heart of your prayer is true.
  3. Body: There are no real rules to the body of a prayer. This can be anything from giving thanks for recent or upcoming blessings, seeking guidance in a matter, or sharing your worries or thoughts on something going on. Or you can be praying to simply send a smile up! The most important part of prayer is to have an open dialog with God. The rest is between you and Him!
  4. Closure: While prayers can go on forever if we really wanted to because He has a never-ending listening ear, prayers should be concluded with something that signals to everyone else that the prayer is ending, such as a simple “amen!”

Once you’ve been praying for a while, it gets easier to find a comfortable way to word your prayers and even lead in prayer for a large group of people! If you’re looking for some words to say for Easter, here are a bunch of Easter prayers for all ages!

Short Easter Prayers

Saying a quick prayer is better than not saying a prayer at all. For if we show our gratefulness for each and every blessing, more blessings will fill our hearts and lives. There is always an opportunity to say a short prayer, even if it is silent. He will always hear your prayers!

  • Heavenly Father, I thank you for this glorious day we call Easter, where we celebrate the resurrection of your Son, Jesus! Let us rejoice in you and not forget why we’re gathering on this Sunday. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen!
  • O Jesus, I pray that anyone who has not accepted you as their Lord and Savior will see the importance in you today and come through to you, Jesus. It is because of you that we have such a beautiful day. In your name, I pray, Amen.
  • Thank you, Lord, for _______! Amen!
  • Lord, let your light surround those I love today and forevermore! Amen!
  • Dear God, we thank you for showing Your love for us on the cross, giving us the chance to have this glorious day. Amen!
  • Thank you, God, for Easter and this beautiful Spring day! Amen!
  • Father God, I pray that your love surrounds those whom I love on Earth and those who have left to spend their eternity with You. Amen!
  • Lord, thank you for the gift of new life, the greatest gift of all! Amen!

Easter Prayers for Kids

Teaching kids prayer is an important step in showing them the ways of our faith. For younger kids, it’s a good idea to start out with a couple of fun prayers, while older children should already know the importance of giving thanks and understand talking to God.

  • O Lord, we thank you for being our Father and always keeping your promises! Amen!
  • Dear Jesus, we thank you for these eggs and all the special treats! We pray that everyone has a great day filled with special treats, too! Amen!
  • A Jelly Bean Prayer: Red is for the blood you gave, and black is for the empty grave. Yellow is for the shining sun, white is for the new life begun. Green is for the grass and trees and purple is for your majesty. Orange is for the edge of night, and pink is for the morning light. Amen!
  • May our bellies be as full as our hearts today, Father! Amen!

Easter Dinner Prayers

Each and every meal is a blessing from God! There are many people in this world who are not fortunate enough to have a nice, hot meal, let alone share one with people they love. So, while you’re staring down that table full of food on Easter afternoon, don’t neglect to say your grace and give thanks to Him for providing you with such a blessing!

  • The Lord’s Prayer: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
  • Dear God, We thank you for all the good food and the opportunity to gather with loved ones in celebration of you! We pray that nobody on this beautiful planet goes on an empty stomach, and most of all, feels full with you in their hearts! As we sit here feasting on this Easter dinner with each other, let us not forget why it is that we are celebrating this day, and let us rejoice in you for all the days to come! Amen.
  • Lord, our cups runneth over with your abundance. We thank you for the blessings of this bounty before us and pray that others experience your grace as we do today. We thank you for your sacrifice and your triumph over death Lord. We don’t deserve the mercy you show but thank you with every bit of us for it. This meal is in honor of you, and let us never forget that. Amen.
  • Lord, as we all sit here in front of this generous blessing of food, may you be with us, may your love fill us, and your blessings surround us, and may our worries be none. May the truth in your word find us at every turn. We thank you as we enjoy our dinner in your name. Amen!
  • Heavenly Father, We thank you for this delicious meal in a world where many sit in hunger, for our strong faith in you when many walk in fear, and for friends and family when many are alone. Amen!

While prayers generally have an opening statement and closure, there really is no wrong way to talk to God. Always invite others to pray with you to help them give thanks as well! What matters most is that you say your prayers, especially on Easter. After all, He is the reason for this important day, and every single day to follow!
